Serving Tiskilwa community and surrounding area for over 145 years!
The first library in Bureau County was created in 1875 when 7 members of the Owl Club each contributed 3 dollars to launch the Tiskilwa Library Association.
In 1894, the Tiskilwa Public Library was created under state law and the Tiskilwa Library Association was formally turned over to the Library Board and management.
In 1908, the building was erected to house the library. This building still stands and show cases the ornate tin ceiling and hand lain mosaic tile floor. This building is known as the Community Room.
In 2014, the Tiskilwa Public Library moved into a new 3,800 square foot addition. This building was made possible through an Illinois Public Library Construction and matching donations and savings from the library.
Today’s building houses an ever growing collection of both reading and audio materials. As a full online member of R.A.I.L.S. library system , we have access to media, both print and digital from across the state.
The Tiskilwa Public Library’s goals are to continue to meet the ever changing needs of our patrons. We are dedicated to providing updated materials, technology and in person programming to serve our supportive community.
Guidelines
- All residents in Airispe & Indiantown townships are eligible for a library card.
- We honor all valid Illinois library cards.
- Non residents are $60/year/family
